Know the
key. Play
along.

A simple tool that hides something powerful. Tune anything, keep every tuning you use in one place — then point it at a song and it tells you the key and the tempo, and lights up every note that belongs on your instrument.

This plate is a working tuner. Press MIC (it's blinking) and play a note — your browser will ask permission, and nothing is recorded.

Pick a key. The neck lights up.

This is the part most tuners never get to — and it's real here, not a picture. Choose a root and a scale and every note that belongs appears on the fretboard, brass on the roots. Tap any of them to hear it.

No iPhone? It still works. The tuner at the top of this page and the scales here are the real thing, running in your browser, free — nothing to install and nothing to sign up for. The app is the same tools in your pocket, where the neck follows your own tuning and the needle never leaves the screen.

02Why it exists

The collaborator's best friend

You are in a jam and nobody can say what key it's in. Open T–2, hold it up, and it names the key and the tempo off the room. Pick your instrument and the whole thing lights up — every note on the piano, every chord shape on the guitar, every position on the bass. Then play along.

That's the powerful part. The simple part is that it is still just a tuner: it comes up listening, it gets you in tune, and it keeps every tuning you use — standard, drop, open, or one you designed yourself — in one place you can reach in a second.

It is for players, producers and writers who need to get in tune, or need to know the key of a song or a room. And it is for anyone who wants to learn — or just understand better — how to make music that sounds right. You do that by playing, not by reading about it.

It is free, with no ads, no unlocks and no nag screen. Every player already needs a tuner, and a tuner that interrupts you is worse than no tuner at all.

“It comes up listening. A tuner you have to switch on is a tuner you are already fighting.

In the spirit of the needle

INSPIRED BYThe needle tunerEVERY GIG BAG SINCE THE '60S

The needle tuner is the one piece of gear every player already trusts. T–2 keeps that trust, then spends the rest of the page on what a tuner could do next if it kept listening.

WHAT STAYS
  • The needle — flat runs left, sharp runs right, green at centre
  • It comes up listening: no menu between you and in tune
  • String targets drawn like a headstock
  • Chromatic — a voice reads the same as a string
WHAT THE PHONE ADDS
  • Pick a key and the whole neck lights up with what belongs
  • Every chord in the key, with a real fingering on the neck
  • DETECT hears what is playing and names the key and tempo
  • An AUv3 that tunes what is already on a track

Not a re-creation — a continuation. If you love the hardware, you'll feel at home here; learn here, and the hardware will feel like home too.

04The field manual

Tune. See. Hear. Learn.

Tune

A 15-LED needle, flat left, sharp right. Green at centre. It comes up listening — a tuner you have to switch on is a tuner you are already fighting. Phone mic, or the plug when you press INPUT; a pickup wired straight in reads truer than a room full of reflections.

See

Choose a key and a scale — major, minor, both pentatonics, blues, and the modes — and the neck or the keys light up with what belongs. Capo up to 9 frets and the shapes move with you.

Hear

Every chord in the key, laid out with its numeral. Tap to hear it. Tap again and the neck narrows to a real fingering — dots and ✕, open position or barre.

Learn

One page. No modes, no tabs, no settings screen, nothing to save. The needle is pinned at the top and never scrolls away; everything else rides under it.

The whole manual ships inside the app. Tap the wordmark — it is the only help there is, and the only help you need.

05The screens

One key. Three instruments.

T-2 set to guitar in standard tuning, key of C major: the six-string neck lit with every note that belongs, brass on the roots
C MAJOR — GUITAR
T-2 set to bass in standard tuning, key of C major: the four-string neck lit with the same shape, brass on the roots
C MAJOR — BASS
T-2 set to piano, key of C major: the keyboard lit with the notes of the key, brass on the roots, black keys sitting out
C MAJOR — PIANO

Captured with the demo reel feeding the real detector a real frequency — nothing is faked. The needle is doing what it does when it hears A2.

06Also an Audio Unit

Tune what is already playing.

T–2 installs as an AUv3 effect. Drop it on a track in GarageBand, Logic, AUM or Ableton and the needle reads the signal in place — it passes audio through untouched. Bit-perfect, checked at the bench.

It reads whatever the track carries, and that includes a song you did not write. Drop a reference in, put T–2 on it, press DETECT: it names the key and the tempo, then lights up the notes that belong on your instrument. You go from hearing a song to playing over it without leaving the session — no transcribing, no hunting for a chord chart that might be wrong.

The point of that is speed. An idea keeps its heat for about as long as it takes to go look something up.

08House rule

T–2 is the reference the rest of the shop is tuned against. Every Ferric instrument names a note the way the tuner would hear it — so what you learn here reads the same on every machine you pick up next.

Free, headed for the App Store.

T–2 is nearly at the counter — the listing is built and the build is signed; review is what's left. iPhone, iPad, the Mac app and the AUv3 are all free. The tuner is the front door; it never gets a price.
